Olga Sushko, the lawyer of Media Law Institute, addressed at the conference in Kazakhstan

During August 11-12, 2011 in Astana hosted theinternational conference “Actual problems of media legislation: estimates,forecasts and prospects.” Representatives of civil society in Kazakhstan analyzedthe experience of Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Caucasus to find the best offersto its own national media legislation.

Olga Sushko, the lawyer of Media Law Institute, spoke about the decriminalizationof defamation in Ukraine in 2001, noting the importance of this step for anydemocratic state.

Mrs. Sushko also shared the experience of adoption of the Law “On Access toPublic Information” and described the first results of its application inpractice.
