On September 6, 2011 by the order of theChairman of the Verkhovna Rada № 798 came into force new Regulations on the accreditationof journalists and media workers in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
According to the regulations aim of accreditation is to ensure openness andtransparency of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, its organs and people’s deputiesof Ukraine, as well as in promoting journalists, media workers in performingtheir professional duties. Next step is to provide opportunities for the full,fair and balanced coverage of the Verkhovna Rada`s working process by journalistsand media professionals.
Accreditation of journalists and media workersin the VR is carried out by the press service of the Parliament by grantingindividual accreditation cards for the term of the Rada`s next convocation. Journalists,media workers, not accredited by the VR may be ordered single pass at the pressservice.
Accreditation cards provide the right input of journalists and technicians in:
• the press box and lobby of the building-sessionon the Grushevsky street, 5 (except for session hall) during the sessions ofthe Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine through the entrance number 1;
• аppropriate building of the VR during the briefings, conferences, roundtables and other media activities;
• appropriate building of the VR during the public sessions of committees, temporarycommittees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
As noted in the press service of the Parliament,the draft provisions developed with the assistance of lawyers of the Media Law Institute,the Ukrainian Independent Center for Political Studies, and agreed with theChairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of speech and information AndriyShevchenko.
