As of November 15, 2012 in Ukraine there were registered 42573 printed editions of different areas of distribution. Such information Media Law Institute has received from the State Registration Service of Ukraine in response to a request for information. Thus in Ukraine continues the trend of emergence of new print media. Thus, at the end of 2010 the State Register of print media contained 30,482 printed media in early June 2009 – 27 696 entries, and as of 07.01.2003 – there were only 17,371 printed media.

However, despite the growth dynamics of the print media, the actual amount of media that have been published in Ukraine continues to fall. According to the Ukrainian Association of Press Publishers in Ukraine for the past 4 years the number of publications decreased from 4200 to 3100, representing 7.3% of the total registered print media.
