22nd of October 2015, the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine held the conference on election of the Supervisory Council of Public Service Broadcasting of Ukraine (BSBU) in human rights protection.
Five public organizations participated in the conference: Media Law Institute, Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group, All-Ukrainian Public Organisation “Ukrainian Bar Association”, Committee of Voters of Ukraine, and the Council of Layers of Ukraine.
Taras Shevchenko, Oleksandr Pavlichenko, Denis Bugay, Olexiy Koshel and Sergiy Gytchenko were running for the membership of the Supervisory Council. Taras Shevchenko, the director of Media Law Institute has gained the most of the votes.
The priorities of a newly elected member of the Supervisory Council are:
- The development of the qualitative legal documents regulating the activities of PSBU and the criteria of reporting;
- To observe the effectiveness of the Public Service Broadcasting of Ukraine;
- To ensure the election and effective functioning of the PSBU.
Taras Shevchenko was one of the developers of the model law on public broadcasting and other laws aiming at a creation of public broadcasting in Ukraine.
