CEDEM holds an expert discussion of the draft law to engage foreign volunteers

March 11, 2024

On March 5, 2024, CEDEM initiated an expert discussion of the draft law on liberalization of migration legislation for foreign volunteers and humanitarian workers.

Representatives of more than ten Ukrainian civil society organizations joined the active elaboration of the draft law, the main goal of which is to simplify migration requirements for foreign volunteers and humanitarian workers. During the discussion, the event participants analyzed in detail the current version of the draft law and prepared a number of proposals for its amendment.

Today, more than ever, it is important to create favorable conditions for attracting highly qualified foreign citizens who want to help Ukraine in such difficult times. Therefore, CEDEM invites other civil society organizations of Ukraine to join further activities on liberalization of migration legislation for foreign volunteers and humanitarian workers.

Separately, we would like to note that CEDEM experts have updated Section 5 of the Legal Reforms Roadmap for Civil Society in Ukraine in 2023, which identifies the need to simplify the legal conditions for attracting and working with foreign volunteers and proposes appropriate tools for such changes. You can see the updated Section 5 Volunteering Development at the link

The event was organized as part of the Project Ukraine Civil Society Sectoral Support Activity implemented by the Initiative Center to Support Social Action “Ednannia” in partnership with the Ukrainian Center for Independent Political Research (UCIPR) and Centre for Democracy and Rule of Law (CEDEM) with the sincere support of the American people through United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
