The Centre for Democracy and Rule of Law, together with lawyer Dmytro Mazurok prepared an Analytical Review of Civil Society Activities for the Protection of Public Activists and Human Rights Defenders in Ukraine within the Ukraine Civil Society Sectoral Support Activity project.
This document provides summary information on the activities of human rights organizations, coalitions (platforms, initiatives, etc.) that ensure judicial protection and provide advocacy support to public activists and human rights defenders who are attacked and persecuted through their activities in Ukraine, their funding sources and examples of joint action for the protection of human rights.
In total, the authors of the review found information (Ukr) on 103 human rights organizations and 14 coalitions (platforms, initiatives, etc.) whose activities are related to the protection of human rights. This list is not exhaustive. The map of human rights players was created by CEDEM lawyer Diana Nalyvanna and CEDEM Deputy Director Olesia Kholopik.
The information presented in this report was generated only from open sources. On the one hand, this affected the amount of information that could be identified and analyzed. On the other hand, the authors hope to show how NGOs and other organizations talk about themselves, to form an independent attitude to their work.
Creation of the Analytical Review of Civil Society Activities for the Protection of Public Activists and Human Rights Defenders in Ukraine allowed us to see that a small number of human rights organizations systematically report on their activities, update data on their projects and funding sources, provide strategic legal protection and provide advocacy support to their colleagues in case of oppression.
