National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine (UA:PBC) – is a Ukrainian public service broadcaster that integrates Ukrainian TV channels and radio stations in all regions of Ukraine. It is also referred to as Public Service Broadcasting, UA: Public Broadcasting and UA: PBC.
Creation of Public Service Broadcasting in Ukraine was one of the first areas of activity of the organization since its foundation. Public broadcasting was launched in Ukraine due to the adoption of the long-awaited Law on Public Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine in 2014, the first draft of which was developed and presented by CEDEM specialists (back then – Media Law Institute) back in 2005.
Director of the Centre for Democracy and Rule of Law Taras Shevchenko is a member of UA:PBC Supervisory Board. The Centre’s experts regularly advise journalists and UA:PBC’s governing bodies on legal issues. At the same time, the CEDEM team was involved in the development of a number of UA:PBC documents, including the Articles of Association and Editorial Articles of Association of the Public Broadcaster, the Regulations on the Election of the Chairperson and Members of the UA:PBC Board, legal opinions for the Supervisory Board and the Management Board, etc.
Expanding its expertise in the field of media law, the CEDEM team also conducts thematic training events for UA:PBC employees.
