The Centre for Democracy and Rule of Law studies the impact of social media on the information environment, freedom of speech, and user safety. CEDEM experts analyze platform algorithms, content moderation policies, issues of misinformation and manipulation on social media, as well as questions of digital rights and privacy.
Particular attention is given to researching the impact of social media during wartime, specifically their role in spreading false information, combating fake news, and their use for strategic communications. CEDEM works on enhancing users’ digital literacy, explaining how recommendation algorithms work, how to identify manipulative content, and how to protect personal data in the online space.
As a trusted partner of Meta, the Centre for Democracy and Rule of Law is authorized to receive complaints from Facebook and Instagram users regarding unjustified blocking of posts and account deletions, and to submit appeals regarding these actions to Meta.
We ask media representatives to send CEDEM reports of instances where your news content has been blocked on social networks to sn@cedem.org.ua.
